Highlands Hammock State Park, Sebring, FL

Hey all! Hadn’t camped in two months! Serious withdrawals!!!!  We just spent the weekend at Highlands Hammock SP in Sebring. Beautiful! BUT, if you’re looking for more private sites, this isn’t the place – I didn’t look at the primitive camping for tents – that might be a different story. Great place to camp w/a group. We were by ourselves and it was fine. Lots of nice people. (UPDATE – We’ve visited this park twice and really enjoyed it. The first time was a site too small (our fault), but the last time we stayed on site 102 and it was fine.

They’ve got nine trails. An hour tram ride that takes you to the back of the property where people aren’t allowed to wander ($4/adults, $2/12 and under). A very nice museum of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp). A restaurant/mini store – which serves pancakes & sausage breakfast on Sat/Sun mornings for around $5 for all you can eat. A nice fireplace they use on cold days. They also grill other foods. They have fish fry’s on Friday nights. Saturday night fireside interpretive talks. A couple playgrounds. A volleyball net. Two shuffleboard courts (Which I do admit need attention, so I’m not sure if it would work or not.). Two horseshoe pits. When I peaked in the bathrooms, they needed a little cleaning, but it was in the evening when people probably had taken showers, etc. It was PACKED that weekend. Not one site was available. Laundry facilities, etc…..

Bottom line, we really enjoyed ourselves. Bring your bikes. Lots of places to ride them.
